You are not looking for the connection to be sensible. You are using it as a lever.

The classic case sets up the provocation that a factory sits downstream of itself, which sounds like nonsense until it produces the entirely practical rule that a factory must take its water intake below its own output, so it is the first to drink its own pollution. Harvesting is the deliberate step of going back through the raw output, selecting the ideas with real potential, and shaping them into something workable.
